Each and every occasion people all over the world ridiculed England. When you put that behind and move to the present day, England fans now can proudly say the following.
"Remember the England"
The rugby world cup semi-final was one for the ages. All of England will never forget that game for a long time. Having crashed out from their own party at home four years earlier, this was the moment waiting to happen for them.
2003 England won the world cup, but they never faced All Blacks in the knockout stages. Even reaching the finals in 2007. This was the perfect opportunity to grab a world cup in style and boy they did it.
At the beginning of the game, NBC commentator was comparing All blacks relaxed body language to England's nervous look. In the end, it was not the nervousness, a determination to go all the way. This was a proper win. It was not a one that France stole in 2007 Quater final against All Black's. England had most of the possession. Did they keep it close and made the game boring? Hell, NO. They just spread the ball wide at every given opportunity. It was a masterclass.
What did win the game for England? One of the best defensive performances I ever saw. All blacks were kept for a single-digit score and it came through miscommunication in the line out in England danger zone. Other than that England was disciplined, never gave away poor penalties.
Even though scoreline would suggest the game was a close one but in reality, England dominated. You will rarely see All blacks getting dominated in a game, but this was a one for the ages. Maro Itoje and sam underhill were outstanding along with the rest of the pack. Watch the highlights again how they turned over the possession at the breakdown and won the penalties.
All blacks were looking to penetrate the defense through the entire game, but they never could. Even the flamboyant Sonny Bill Williams could not create any plays with his silky backhand passes.
Rugby community must be still in shock, but this was no fluke. Eddie Jones pulled out one of the best and memorable victories in the history of the rugby world cup history.
